Buju Banton pleads with artistes to clean up lyrics In Buju Banton's latest Gargamel Gleaner, the popular dancehall artiste is pleading with fellow dancehall entertainers to clean up their lyrics in order to stem the social decay that is not only present in Jamaica but most of the Caribbean countries where the music is very popular. Lyrical content in dancehall music has been a hot topic in the Caribbean lately.

 Machel Montano tops International Reggae and World Music Awards 2008 Machel Montano, the Trinidad and Tobago soca superstar, has copped top honours at the International Reggae and World Music Awards held recently at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. The awards included Best Calypso/Soca Entertainer, Most Outstanding Stage Personality of the Year and the much-coveted, Bob Marley Entertainer of the Year Award.

 Bounty Killer and Mavado banned in and from Guyana News media is reporting that Bounty Killer and Mavado are not only banned from performing in Guyana, but also their music is also banned on the airwaves in Guyana. The reggae dancehall artistes were banned from performing in Guyana last week by the government.

 Bail for Mavado but will miss Trinidad concert Reggae dancehall deejay Mavado will miss his scheduled show in Trinidad tomorrow, which has been rescheduled to April 4th and 5th. This after Mavado was arrested on Wednesday after turning himself in to Jamaica Police. Mavado had to surrender his passport yesterday in Jamaica courts after receiving J$200,000 bail.

This comes as excellent news for the Caribana management since the last couple years have been hit and miss when it comes to funding of the annual event.

Artists mentioned in his call include popular dancehall artists Movado and Busy Signal as well as hip hop mogul 50 Cent.

 Barbados to honour Rihanna with "Rihanna Day" Barbados, home to hip hop and RnB sensation Rihanna, is set to declare a public holiday in her honour appropriately dubbed "Rihanna Day". The news came as a surprise to the 20 year old singer who was discovered by Jay-Z a couple years back.

 Former TnT Attorney General Keith Sobion passes away Trinidad and Tobago, the West Indies and even Facebook are in mourning over the untimely death of former Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago Keith Sobion. Sobion died after medical complications to remove a tooth at the University Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.

 Bounty Sundays and Beenie Tuesdays halted News out of Jamaica is that the Jamaican Police have banned the proposed street dances in Majesty "Back To" Gardens named after popular entertainers Bounty Killer and Beenie Man because it "is going to cause conflict and we have to step on conflict because conflict leads to crime." For now no more Bounty Sundays, and Beenie Tuesdays will never start.

Bunji placed first, Iwer George second, with fan favourite Faye-Ann Lyons third.

 Kewal "DJ Lalo" Ragbir is dead Popular DJ and businessman Kewal "DJ Lalo" Ragbir has died in vehicular accident on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Trinidad days away from his 50th birthday celebrations. His loss will put a damper on Carnival 2008 celebrations as Lalo played an integral part in the annual festival.

 Trinidad Carnival 2008 challenges - Machel, Blaxx and Bunji Machel Montano laid stake to the Road March 2008 title at the annual Eyes Wide Shut fete held at Queen's Park Oval on Tuesday night. Machel had words for Blaxx in another spell binding performance, while Blaxx had words for Bunji Garlin in the Soca Monarch chase.

 Brian Lara house robbed in Trinidad Former West Indies and cricketing great Brian Lara's house was broken into and TT$8,500 was stolen. According to police the thief was known to Lara and was an "inside job". Lara chose not to press charges against the accused, who has not been identified.

This has been confirmed by both Sizzla and Jah Cure. The conflict started after Sizzla hinted that Jah Cure might need some vocal lessons.

 TnT London High Commissioner Morean-Phillip threatened The Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to London, Glenda Morean-Phillip has received death threats from a US-based man over a conviction of one his family members when Morean-Phillip was Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago. It is alleged a group of Jamaicans based in the UK have been dispatched to London to destroy Morean-Phillip.

 395 murders in 2007 as 2008 opens with 8 more dead The number of murders in Trinidad and Tobago reached 395 for 2007, a new record for the twin island republic. The previous high was 386 in 2005. With the PNM government firmly in control after a validating 2007 elections victory, many wonder where the priorities of the government are.
