Ask.com have announced they have acquired Lexico Publishing Group which operates dictionary.com, reference.com and thesaurus.com. Terms of the deal, set to be announced today, aren’t being disclosed. Call Girl Goes After Girls Gone Wild For Cybersquatting
Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the reported mistress of former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, has filed a $10 million lawsuit against MRA Holdings, producers of the popular Girls Gone Wild videos. Other Lanham violations include profiting from trademark infringement, false designation of origin, false represenation and false description of goods. .Asia and Pool.com Come Under Fire
A press release today from Thomas Rucker of Madunia GmbH he refers to the sunrise auctions of .asia domains as “shady” and “dubious”. Rucker’s claims that the CEO of Pool.com, Richard Schreier, is benefiting from the company’s relationship as auctioneer of the .asia domains. Pool.com was contracted by the .asia registery to auction all domain names that received multiple applicants during the .asia landrush period. Rucker points out that the CEO of the company that auctions these domains likely would have inside information on the top bids placed on these names. Rucker has discovered that Schreier is also the owner of several other companies in Europe which have acquired some of the premium keyword .asia domains including Porn.asia , Dating.asia and Insurance.asia. .ORG registry to increase prices by 10%
The .ORG registry operator, Public Interest Registry (PIR) has sent a letter to ICANN announcing their intention to increase their registration fees by 10% as of November 9th, 2008. The price increase brings the price for registrars up to $6.75 from $6.15 after last year’s price increase by 2.5%. The letter did not cite a reason. One million names in the .pl domain
A millionth .pl domain has been registered in the national internet domain register kept by NASK (Research and Academic Computer Network). Head of the NASK Internet Domains Division, Andrzej Bartosiewicz, informs that the domain has been registered on 6 May 2008. Exceeding the first million of Polish domains coincides with the fifth anniversary of launching a fully automated system of domain registration and introduction by NASK of the Partnership Programme which allows the partner companies to individually register domains in the national register .pl.
