ELECTION SHAMBLES FOR UNITARY COUNCIL Mebyon Kernow the Party for Cornwall has condemned the announcement from the Boundary Committee for England that it will not be able to complete the work necessary to create new seats for elections to the new unitary council by May or June 2009 and that the elections will have to proceed on the basis of 82 Councillors for the new authority with the same electoral divisions as the current County Council.
SO HOW MANY COUNCILLORS WILL THE NEW COUNCIL HAVE? The Boundary Committee for 'England' have confirmed today that they are minded to accept the submission from the One Cornwall Implementation Executive that there should be 123 Councillors for the new unitary authority.

BRITISH AIRWAYS TO SUSPEND NEWQUAY CORNWALL FLIGHTS British Airways announced today that it will withdraw scheduled operations from four London Gatwick short-haul routes, including its daily flights to Newquay Cornwall Airport, and that plans to start two new services from Gatwick have also been scrapped.
South West Music School celebrates its first year in Cornwall To celebrate the end of a fantastic first year, South West Music School will be holding a residential at Truro School for the first year students. The weekend will consist of an exploration of rhythm, dynamics, musical structure and one note symphonies and culminates with a short performance by the students, aptly named The Ensemble of Infinite Possibilities.

Lisa Tregale, Director of South West Music School says, We want to introduce the students to as wide a range of music as possible, to stretch their boundaries and take them out of their musical comfort zones. At previous residentials we have taken the students to classical concerts, this time we are taking them to a gig by a local Cornish band, The Sea.
The Sea are a local Guitar & Drum rock duo who are the brothers Alex & Peter Chisholm. They are performing on Saturday 26 July at Club Cukoo @ Bar 200, River Street, Truro (opposite the museum). The gig is free; doors opening at 7.30pm with the support acts starting at 8.30pm and the main act starting at 10pm.

These are for 6,000, 9,400 and 11,100 dwellings. People have been asked to indicate which option they prefer. Kerrier District Council, has suggested that 9,400 dwellings is the most appropriate level.

EU - NEW STATUS FOR CELTIC LANGUAGES The European Council is due to vote on the European status of two Celtic languages today (Tuesday 15th July 2008), after talks begun between the Westminster Government and Europe early last month. If agreed, the Scots Gaelic and Welsh languages will be given the same EU status currently enjoyed by the Basque, Catalan and Galician languages, where citizens have the right to send correspondence to the EU in their native language and receive a reply in that language.
